A lot can happen in a year

Welcome to Takao Nursery Version 2 – we’ve gone through some changes and upgrades, but we’re still the same great company you’ve come to know!

For the last 9 months or so we’ve been living the life of a recluse while we turned ourselves upside down and inside out in an effort to really focus inward and improve who we are and what we do.

One. We implemented new protocols and processes – from stock maintenance to cutting type to hormones to soil mix and so on and so on…basically everything has been questioned and reevaluated. I mean I even reorganized our storage closet to fit 4 letter size filing cabinets instead of 3 legal size filing cabinets in order to maximize our tiny office space. Every inch of this company was scrutinized. We got crazy up in this place!!

Two. Better accountability – hello more paperwork (I want to see that trail), more training and more meetings to address issues. Let’s tighten up this ship!

Three. More extensive trialing – This was actually the first area I dove into. Having no propagation experience (I was way outside of my marketing and design/HR expertise), I figured I would start with the varieties we had difficulty with. To sum it all up I give you the words of my husband, “You have no experience and you’re going to start with the hard to propagate plants?” to which I replied, “Yes.”

Four. An emphasis on communication – We want to keep you in the loop as much as possible. Whether it’s a heads up on new items you might like, suggesting a sub, early notifications on any back-orders or cancellations. We want chat like BFF’s! (oh and don’t forget to follow us on Instagram cuz we’re friends like that now!)

Change is never easy and I’ll be honest, along the way things got a little tense. Old ways of doing things were challenged, family dynamics were tested, power struggles were had and still continue to bubble up on occasion. Being part of a family business is another topic all its own!

But after all was said and done, here we are – better for our customers and better for ourselves. We look forward to growing together in 2015!
